Thank you for taking a minute to check out FLOOF! My name is Karen Marino, from as far back as I can remember I've had a predisposed affinity for anything & everything animal. Growing up on a small farm and having been born into a horse training family really kick started my love for anything animal related and afforded me the opportunity to be a refuge for all animals in need large and small.
Through many years, and different jobs, I’ve always known that my journey, at some point would culminate around animal rescue, yet I never knew exactly how. I knew I couldn’t take them all home with me (although I wanted to, and sometimes even tried lol).
Flash forward to adulthood, where I moved to Detroit and received a first-hand crash course in the overwhelming need for animal rescue and the exhausted status of animal shelters. Throughout my time in the city, I had the pleasure of participating in the rescue of many animals, from helping secure dogs running in traffic on the expressway, to pulling them out of dilapidated abandoned buildings in subzero temperatures, most of them emaciated, injured and/or in dire need of medical attention & longing for a safe place to land. All these experiences have granted me an intimate perspective of our shelter and adoption system, and I knew there had to be a better way. And so, I got to work, I put my graphic design, multitude of random career skills and entrepreneurial background to work and set out to build a better mouse trap.
